Wordle
The daily five-letter word puzzle, one game a day, scores shared with friends
A free browser puzzle from The New York Times: six guesses to find a five-letter word, with each guess colored to show which letters are right and in place. Everyone gets the same word, and there is only one a day, so it works as a shared morning ritual rather than a time sink. Players trade starting words and compare scores by text, and variants exist for four words (Quordle), eight (Octordle) and equations (Nerdle). A few minutes of logic before the inbox opens is the appeal.

Starts every day with it, then Quordle and Octordle, then checks email to see how friends and family scored. He likes vowel-heavy openers such as AUDIO or OUNCE, usually finishes in four guesses, and values that the daily limit stops him playing all day.
