Coca-Cola

Several cans of Coke a day, regular or cherry, as the default drink

The world's best-known soft drink, taken here as a daily habit rather than a treat: a can with breakfast, another through the working day, one with lunch. A 12-ounce can carries about 39 grams of sugar and 34 milligrams of caffeine, so for most drinkers it works as a quick source of energy and a mild stimulant. Public-health guidance generally counts sugary drinks as something to limit, and the people who drink several a day tend to know that and say so. Cherry Coke and the diet and zero-sugar versions are the usual variations.

Who backs it

Sorted by strength of stance

  • Investor · Berkshire Hathaway chairman

Says he found everything he likes to eat by the age of six and sees no reason to change, Coke and hot fudge sundaes included. Told that broccoli might buy him an extra year, he would rather lose the year. Happiness, he argues, makes an enormous difference to longevity, and he is happier drinking Coke. The company put his face on Cherry Coke cans when the drink launched in China.
