The Psychology of Money

Nineteen short chapters on how people behave with money, not on what to buy

It came out in 2020. The starting observation is that people with no financial training often do well with money while economists sometimes go broke, so the book works on how people act rather than on technique. Each chapter takes a single behavior: luck and risk, knowing what enough is, compounding, room for error, and the difference between a rational decision and a reasonable one. Most of the stories come from outside finance. There is almost no allocation advice in it, which is why readers tend to describe it as a framing book rather than a how-to.

Writer · The Psychology of Money

Nineteen short chapters on what happens in your head when you try to do things with money. Years spent on the 2008 crisis convinced him the answers were not in the finance textbooks but scattered across psychology, sociology and history. He kept the chapters short, he says, because he did not want to waste anyone's time.
