Low but sufficient protein

Keeping protein modest through midlife, then raising it again in later years

The opposite bet to the high-protein camp. Certain amino acids switch on the IGF-1 and TOR growth pathways that several aging labs have tied to faster aging, so the aim is enough protein to stay well nourished and not much beyond that. The position comes with an age split: the epidemiology reverses somewhere around 65, when frailty and muscle loss start to matter more than growth signaling, and intake goes back up. Protein quality muddies the argument, since plant and animal sources can differ several fold in essential amino acids for the same gram count.
