Power to the People!
Two lifts, low reps and no failure, drawn from Russian strength practice
Tsatsouline puts two exercises at the center of training, the deadlift and the side press, done for a few hard but comfortable singles and doubles nearly every day. Reps stay low, sets stop short of failure, and the weight creeps up slowly. Much of the text is about tension as a learnable skill: bracing, gripping and breathing in ways that let a lifter produce more force with the muscle already there. It was among the first popular English accounts of Soviet strength methods.
