The Bullet Journal Method

Ryder Carroll on the paper notebook system and what it is really for

Ryder Carroll lays out rapid logging, the daily and monthly spreads, and the migration step where you copy forward only the tasks still worth doing. Roughly half the book is mechanics and half is an argument about attention and self-knowledge, which is the half that readers arriving from productivity blogs do not expect and often like best. Carroll built the system around his own attention difficulties and says so early on. A notebook and a pen are the entire cost.

Picked it up while writing his own book, expecting to learn nothing, and credits Ryder Carroll with changing how he thinks about notes, journaling, productivity and what a good life looks like. For him it is a method for clarifying what you value that happens to live in a paper notebook.
