Bike computer

Bar-mounted GPS head unit showing power, directions and ride data

Riders clamp one to the handlebars to record the ride and to read what matters while moving: power, heart rate, gradient, lap splits, turn-by-turn directions. It pairs to sensors over ANT+ or Bluetooth and uploads the file afterwards. A phone does much of this. The difference is that a dedicated unit takes rain, lasts a long day and stays readable in sun. Entry models cost about a hundred dollars. Mapping and a color screen multiply that.
