Cycling power meter
Hub, crank or pedal sensor that reads a rider's output in watts
A strain gauge built into a bike's hub, crank or pedals that reports how many watts the rider is producing. Unlike heart rate it responds instantly and does not drift with heat, caffeine or a bad night. Coaches set training zones from it and use it to pace long races, where going out fifteen watts too hard costs hours later.

Has mostly settled on the Favero Assioma Pro MX and RS pedals, with Garmin Rally left on the triathlon bike. The reason he gives is money rather than accuracy: cheaper for him to keep buying spare Favero sets than Garmin ones, and he says the two work equally well.

A CycleOps PowerTap hub is the power meter on his bike. He listed it because people kept asking what he rode, and noted that no sponsor sits behind the choice.
