Swim goggles
Sealed lenses on a strap, chosen for fit, field of view and lens tint
Two lenses with a gasket that keeps water out, held on by a strap and a nose bridge. Fit decides everything: a goggle that leaks in the first 25 meters ruins a session or a race. Racing models sit low in the eye socket to cut drag, and outdoor swimmers pick a tint for glare and a curved lens for a wider sideways view. Cheap pairs work fine; the expensive ones mostly fit better and fog less.

Olympic swimmer · Most decorated Olympian in history
His Rio racing kit came from his own MP line: the XCEED goggle with the X-O cap and XPRESSO suit. Sighting lane lines in outdoor pools had always been hard for him, and he said the curved lens let him see two or three lanes across. MP is his brand, built with Aqua Sphere, so he is describing his own product.

Swims in a Speedo Vanquisher. He rates the technology in the FORM goggles and enjoys them in a pool, but says the narrow side vision rules them out for the open water swimming that makes up most of his time in the water.
