Tart cherry juice
Montmorency cherry juice or concentrate, usually drunk in the evening
Sour Montmorency cherries carry small amounts of melatonin along with anthocyanins, which is why the juice turned up first in sports recovery studies and later in sleep ones. Trials are small and the effects modest. Most people drink a glass, or a diluted concentrate, in the hour before bed.

Cold Montmorency juice, roughly half an hour before bed, sits on her short list of natural sleep aids. The cold helps dump core temperature, she says, and the melatonin in the cherries lines up with the body's own rise.
